Man is not inherently evil, but is inherently good since God creates good things and since God created man. Original sin gives man a "fallen" not evil nature.

Inasmuch as poverty is a state of humble subjection, the "poor in spirit", come near to the "meek", the subject of the second blessing. The anawim, they who humbly and meekly bend themselves down before God and man, shall "inherit the land" and posses their inheritance in peace. This is a phrase taken from Ps. xxxvi (Hebr., xxxvii), 11, where it refers to the Promised Land of Israel, but here in the words of Christ, it is of course but a symbol of the Kingdom of Heaven, the spiritual realm of the Messiah. Not a few interpreters, however, understand "the earth". But they overlook the original meaning of Ps. xxxvi, 11, and unless, by a far-fetched expedient, they take the earth also to be a symbol of the Messianic kingdom, it will be hard to explain the possession of the earth in a satisfactory way.

People aren't getting dumber, in fact we are getting smarter... smart enough to realise how dumb we are. (by people, I mean everyone except the Americans).

i'm not talking about stars in general; such a subject about stars in general would be ridiculous.

i'm specifically talking about the star that the three magi saw that led them to jesus.

I'm not talking about stars in general; such a subject about stars in general would be ridiculous. I'm specifically talking about the star that the three magi saw that led them to Jesus. The WT holds that this was a malicious plot of Satan's to bring Jesus to Herod. Was it? Was it not God's will that the three magi would come to Jesus and adore him as the shepherds did? Rather than focusing on the negative connotations with the magi, let's examine what good they caused. For one thing they adored Christ (good thing) and they also brought expensive gifts with them to celebrate Jesus' birth (and who said there was no good accounts of birthdays) which helped Jesus' family to make a living in Egypt (considering that a Jewish carpenter would have a hard time finding a job in Egypt). There is also the question: Does Satan really have the power to make such astronomical phenomena? A shining star that coinincides with the birth of Our Saviour sounds more like the work of God, a light display that went with the chorus of singing angels. What do you think?

i was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.

most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.

some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

I've often wondered about this myself and the only reason I can think of is that the "Governing Body" believes so much in their own interpretations and whims that they would change the bible itself to make their beliefs jive with it. I mean, Russell started a new religion because he wouldn't believe in Hell, "For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths." (2 Tim. 4:3,4, NAB). The JW religion is based upon an unhealthy focus on armageddon and the end of the world and an unlearned and incapable leadership who believe that they are God's channel. I guess they truly believe that the bible had been corrupted, especially in the matter of the tetragrammation not being in the NT or other matters.
